Deep vein thrombosis - symptoms and how to test

DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a blood clot in a vein, typically in the leg. DVT is a serious health risk. People over 60 have a higher chance of developing DVT; anybody can be affected if they have the right combination of genetics and lifestyle factors. People who are overweight or obese or have a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), or coagulation abnormalities are at a higher risk of having a DVT. Duplex ultrasonography is an ultrasound imaging technique used to examine blood flow in the veins. The device can identify clots and obstructions in the deep veins. This imaging procedure is the standard for determining DVT.
