Type 1 diabetes - symptoms and how to test

If you have type 1 diabetes, your pancreas either doesn't produce insulin at all or produces very little insulin. Insulin facilitates glucose uptake from the blood by cells in the body. Without insulin, glucose in the blood cannot enter cells and builds up in the body. Type 1 diabetes can strike at any time in life and affect people of any age. Young children, teenagers, and adults are at most risk, which can manifest at any age. A1C testing is more informative about the efficacy of the diabetic treatment plan than daily blood sugar checks. If your A1C is too high, your doctor may recommend adjusting your insulin dosage or dietary regimen.
