Come viene fatto: l'esame viene eseguito applicando degli elettrodi in vari punti del corpo del paziente, in particolare in corrispondenza degli avambracci, delle gambe e del torace. Una volta attivato, l'elettrocardiografo registra l'attività del cuore e la elabora sotto forma di tracciato grafico.
Cosa occorre: l'ECG non necessita di una particolare preparazione. I pazienti sottoposti a cure farmacologiche o portatori di pacemaker devono comunicare tale condizione. Se il soggetto è un uomo con un torace particolarmente villoso, occorre rasare la zona per evitare il distacco degli elettrodi.
Risultati in quanto tempo: pochi minuti. Il tracciato elettrocardiografico in modalità telematica viene inviato ad un centro servizi specializzato dove un cardiologo provvede alla refertazione. A refertazione avvenuta il documento viene inoltrato alla farmacia che lo stamperà e lo renderà disponibile alla persona.
