Trichomoniasis - symptoms and how to test

As a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite, trichomoniasis is relatively frequent. Females infected with trichomoniasis may have a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, itching in the genital area, and painful urination. Trichomoniasis is commonly asymptomatic in males. Women are more likely to experience a case of trichomoniasis than males. More than 2 million U.S. women between the ages of 14 and 49 are affected. More African-American women than white or Hispanic women have trichomoniasis. African-American women are in greater danger the older they are and the more sexual partners they have had. A test can be performed to determine if the trichomoniasis parasite has caused an infection. Infection with trichomoniasis raises the likelihood of contracting other sexually transmitted diseases.
